Breakfast in America Wikipedia

All very cosy, except that, according to some, they weren’t quite the unified, cohesive unit they had been back in Blighty four years before. Principal songwriters Hodgson and Davies had begun to pull in different directions, the former’s increasingly spiritual bent causing raised eyebrows in some quarters. The song Babaji from Even In The Quietest Moments… had alluded to Hodgson’s latest penchant, and there was no stopping him now. "The Rubberband Man" is a "short, fat guy" with rhythm and grace.

To grow, they have to realize there is more to life than just work. This song reminds me of my brother, who excelled at work but because his wife had become unpleasant would try to work all the holidays and overtime he could get, plus he would take the longest route home after work so as to shorten the amount of time he had to spend with her. They have since divorced after she left him.

Take the Long Way Home (Supertramp song)

This song takes me back to when I was young and free and had none of the responsibilities or regrets of what is now my middle age. This song has become my mantra. As a single person, I can relate to the lyrics, "When the time comes to settle down, who's to blame if you're not around."

Excellent dynamic range, bright and crisply clear. A great album, an unbelievable album from MOFI. I have owned the early pressing, a couple of copies, and the CD.

Breakfast in America Review

A lot of us, including me most of the time, are a bit lost. We think we need to famous, first verse about Romeo, . The second verse, joke of the neighborhood, is about not knowing who you are or pretending to be someone else, disregarding your own feelings. The third verse, but there are times, is about almost realizing that we do not live our life in the right way.

We, this time in past tense, took the long way home. Roger Hodgson's debut solo DVD was titled Take the Long Way Home, Live in Montreal. It was released in Canada in 2006, where it went to #1 and sold over a million copies. The DVD was released worldwide in 2007 and is Gold in France.

It would be like hanging the Mona Lisa in a used car salesman's office. At the press meeting when Breakfast In America was presented, Roger Hodgson explained that this song is about a guy who thinks he's really cool ("So you think you're a romeo, playing a part in a picture show"), but it seems that he's the only one who thinks that. This implies that our hero avoids getting home because when he's on the road he has a few more moments of being alone with his dreams, and in his dreams he's a superstar. 1990 RemasterIn June 1990, MFSL re-released a remaster on Ultradisc™ 24 KT Gold CD from their "Original Master Recording" Collection.

Import picture-disc pressing of the 1979 album. With Breakfast in America, Supertramp had a genuine blockbuster hit, topping the charts for four weeks in the U.S. and selling millions of copies worldwide; by the 1990s, the album had sold over 18 million units across the world. Although their previous records had some popular success, they never even hinted at the massive sales of Breakfast in America. Then again, Supertramp's earlier records weren't as pop-oriented as Breakfast. The majority of the album consisted of tightly written, catchy, well-constructed pop songs, like the hits 'The Logical Song', 'Take the Long Way Home', and 'Goodbye Stranger.'.

Supertramp still had a tendency to indulge themselves occasionally, but Breakfast in America had very few weak moments. It was clearly their high-water mark. In a retrospective review for AllMusic, Stephen Thomas Erlewine praised the album's "tightly written, catchy, well-constructed pop songs" and described it as the band's "high-water mark".

We, all of us, are already there. In our hearts and in love we can find home at any time. So we don’t have to take the long way, struggle for attention, success, recognition, home. I can absolutely understand why he turned down the 5 mil offer. Putting the song in a commercial would greatly cheapen the song and it's message, which is loved by millions of people around the world.

They knew they were onto something special as soon as rehearsals began. “Even before we started recording we knew it was very strong musically,” says Helliwell of the early Breakfast In America sessions. Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick and his young assistant Peter Henderson had worked on Even In The Quietest Moments…, but it was with the latter that the band had hit it off best, so he was invited back, this time to co-produce . Supertramp had always had a reputation for meticulousness, and this was no exception. That the album did so well was particularly impressive considering that it was Supertramp’s sixth long player, and its release came at the height of new wave and disco.
